This was the initial sketch for the cover of Forest Mage, by Robin Hobb.
Initially, another forest backdrop was planned - one each for the three books in the trilogy.
After a good deal of thought, the editors decided that this would be too similar to the first cover (editors and film-makers are very eager to make sure the public does not confuse things). Admittedly, I was kind of expecting that, so I had another sketch ready just in case. This sketch will likely become something else entirely.
(The final artwork, by the way, ended up being entirely different.)
